Manufacturing “Talent”: How I Teach the Art of Performing

Benjamin Whitcomb, professor, Music

The concept of talent—that some people are simply born with innate artistic ability—is oversimplistic at best, given the millions of people who have persevered through hard work to become skilled in an art form. However, the idea that 10,000 hours of doing something makes one adept at it falls short as well. In this talk, Dr. Whitcomb will relate his systematic approach to training young musicians to manufacture talent within themselves.
