Cybersecurity is a dynamic, rapidly expanding career field with over 11,000 jobs available in Wisconsin by 2026. There are endless opportunities! You could work within a government agency, educational institution, small business, or corporation. Cybersecurity jobs span across industries and sectors.

Our Apprenticeship Program will equip you with the knowledge, skills, and training to qualify for an entry-level cybersecurity job. On average, the program takes just 1-2 years to complete.  Our apprentices are trained by UW-Whitewater professors to apply the critical cyber skills and technical expertise businesses need to develop security policies, evaluate and prepare digital forensic evidence reports, and ultimately to enable organizations to mitigate the harmful effects of cyber crime.  The initial 16-week training is taught by using Academy of Mind LMS.  Apprentices have unparalleled access to hands-on-training, delivered through live instruction, recorded lectures and lab tutorials.

APPLY FOR AN APPRENTICESHIP

How It Works

  • Our apprentices complete 16 weeks of training with University of Wisconsin-Whitewater professors.
  • Apprentices work a minimum of 600 hours, and must be paid a minimum of $12 per hour.
  • Apprentices create a cybersecurity plan for businesses using the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) framework.

Become a Business Partner

Over the next four years, the Cybersecurity Center for Business will train 1,600 apprentices and partner with approximately 700 private and public companies and K-12 sectors. The apprenticeship program is made possible through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship: Closing the Skills Gap grant and a multi-department university collaboration between the College of Business and Economics, the College of Letters and Sciences, and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.

What To Expect

  • Apprenticeship

    ONLINE TRAINING PROGRAM
    The initial 16-week training course is taught by University of Wisconsin - Whitewater professors using Moodle LMS.

  • On-the-Job Training

    ON-THE-JOB TRAINING
    600 hours of on-the-job training with our business partners. The format and frequency of training depends on the business. All apprentices will be compensated $12/hour for the 600 hours rendered.

  • Certification Prep

    CERTIFICATION PREP
    The apprentices should possess the basic body of knowledge to study for the CompTIA A+ certification, a critical industry credential.
