The Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Early Childhood Education Programs at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks a Coordinator and Lecturer.

 

 

JOB DETAILS:

 

 

The Coordinator/Lecturer will fulfill a range of responsibilities including teaching, supervision, advising, and program coordination. This position also holds the potential to fulfill responsibilities across all early childhood program models: Early Childhood Education (ECE), ECE4U, Early Child Care and Education (ECCE), and certificates/credentials. On-campus presence and participation in department activities are expected. Specific responsibilities within this full-time, 9-month academic year position will vary based on the needs of the program with the possibility of additional contracted summer work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:    

·    A Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Curriculum, and Instruction or a closely related field.

·    At least three years of teaching experience with young children

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·    Ph.D., ED.D. in Early Childhood Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field.

·    Experience teaching at the college level.

·    Online teaching experience.

·    Administrative experience.

·    Ability to communicate with students in Spanish (spoken and written).

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·    Ability to interact respectfully and work collaboratively with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including students, families, staff, and faculty.

·    Ability to contribute as part of a collaborative, integrated team across multiple departments and colleges.

·    Ability to serve in a leadership role within the program; working with campus leadership across the university and in the community.

·    Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

Program Coordination

·    Coordinate course schedules with Curriculum and Instruction and Special Education department chairs.

·    Coordinate with the Department Assistants to hire adjunct Associate Lecturers to teach courses and supervise teacher candidates.

·    Market programs through on-campus activities, conferences, and other events designed to recruit students to enroll in any/all program models.

·    Complete paperwork and assessment reports as required at the state and national levels (e.g., by the DPI, NAEYC, college, or university) to ensure quality programming and maintain accreditation status

 

Field Placement Coordination

·    Arrange for field and/or student teaching placements.

·    Work with program leaders, school principals, and cooperating teachers.

·    Build partnerships with schools and community programs.

 

Instruction

·    Teach coursework related to all ECE programs, in a manner that ensures consistency of content and demonstrates best practices in adult education. 

·    Assess student learning against both NAEYC and CEC/DEC professional standards.

·    Supervise students in student teaching and field placements providing constructive feedback, evaluating students’ dispositions, and scoring key assessments.

 

Other Duties as Assigned

May include but are not limited to:

·    Advise students in early childhood education degree programs.  Coordinate with college advisors to ensure students meet all graduation requirements for their degree, including general education and Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction licensure courses (if applicable).

·    Engage in committee work.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

 

 

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary of $50,000 adjusted to be commensurate with the candidate’s education, related experience, and qualifications.
