Lecturer - Corporate/Organizational Communication - Communication - 21227

ATTENTION:

The Department of Communication in the College of Arts and Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Lecturer (TL020) in Corporate/Organizational Communication beginning August 2025. This is a full-time, 9-month Academic Staff position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate courses in the Communication Department's Corporate and Health Communication emphasis. The successful candidate also will coordinate the Department's Graduate Instructional Assistants (GIA) program.

JOB DETAILS:

The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in public speaking, corporate training, non-profit communication, communication and team building, leadership, applied communication, as well as provide support to the Department's internship program by developing professional networks. Other courses may be based on the candidate's individual expertise within the Communication and Journalism programs. The GIA program coordinator role will require the successful candidate to manage, mentor and guide two program graduate students who serve as teaching assistants for the basic public speaking course. As GIA program coordinator, the successful candidate will work with the department chair to schedule multiple sections of the basic public speaking course and will be responsible for maintaining the curriculum and assessment design for the basic public speaking course. Preference will be given to candidates with previous higher education teaching experience or corporate training experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Master's Degree in Communication or related field
  • Previous professional experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate students 
  • Ability to contribute service to the Department, the College, the University, and the Community
  • Commitment to working with diverse populations


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous higher education teaching experience or corporate training experience
  • Previous experience/interest in inclusive hiring and advertising practices, diverse market segments, and communications access for minority businesses


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary trainings and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Lecturer's full-time teaching responsibilities include courses focusing on public speaking corporate communication; applied workplace competencies, leadership, team building and more. Lecturers at UW-W may be required to teach online and/or in a hybrid format, or courses in the evenings. In addition, Lecturers may also teach New Student Seminar or University Learning Communities, or participate in other programs geared toward improving student success. The GIA program coordinator responsibilities include scheduling and managing the graduate student instructional assistants' teaching efforts, regular review and update of the basic public speaking course's curriculum, and designing assessment plans for the basic public speaking course.

The Department of Communication is the largest Department in the College of Arts and Communication and one of the largest at the University. The Department serves more than 500 students who major in one of our eight emphases: Advertising, Broadcast/Print/Web Journalism, Corporate and Health Communication in face to face and online options, Electronic Media, International Journalism, Media Arts and Game Development, and Public Relations. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary of $45,000.
