Assistant Professor - Tenure-Track Position - Social Work - 21264
ATTENTION:
The Department of Social Work in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater invites applications for one full-time, 9-month tenure-track assistant professor position starting August 25, 2025.
The position involves teaching courses across the curriculum in the BSW and MSW programs both in person and online, expanding their research agenda, and engaging in service. The successful candidate will have a research agenda that demonstrates promise for developing a productive record that includes publications. Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate social work students is expected. An MSW with two years of post-MSW practice experience is required. A DSW degree or PhD in social work or a related health or social science field is also required.
JOB DETAILS:
The candidate will carry a 4/4 teaching load during the academic year and teach online (synchronous and asynchronous) and in-person across the BSW and MSW curriculums, which are taught both during the day and in the evenings. The candidate will also serve as an academic and professional advisor to BSW and MSW students, maintain an active research agenda that engages undergraduate and graduate students and results in publications and conference presentations, and engage in service-related activities, which includes service to the department, the college, the university, community, and social work profession.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications
- A Master of Social Work (MSW) degree
- A Doctorate of Social Work (DSW) degree or PhD in social work or a related health or social science field. ABD candidates may apply; however, must have the degree by the August 2025 contract start date. If the degree is not completed by the start date, the candidate may be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree must be completed before January 2026, which is the first scheduled job performance review.
- Two years of post-MSW practice experience
Desired Qualifications
- Holds or is eligible for a clinical social work license
- Experience working in clinical social work focused on mental and/or behavioral health
- Experience in college/university teaching, particularly in online teaching
- Teaching or research experience in mental health or substance use
- Teaching or research experience in school social work
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary trainings and drills
- Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting salary within a range of $60,000 - $65,000 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications. There may additional opportunities to teach and earn a salary during the summer months.
