Assistant Professor - Tenure-Track Position - Counselor Education - 21267
ATTENTION:
The Department of Counselor Education in the College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in clinical mental health and/or school counseling for a start date of August 2025.
This 9-month full-time position includes responsibilities for teaching graduate courses in the Counselor Education program, developing a strong research agenda, and a commitment to providing service to the university and community.
JOB DETAILS:
The successful applicant will join a group of committed and vibrant faculty who deliver innovative learning opportunities to a diverse student body. They will teach primarily in person core and elective courses in counselor education, through a rigorous academic curriculum that includes experiential and self-reflective learning. The candidate is expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages graduate students, results in publications, and contributes to advancing the department, university, counseling profession, and society. The candidate will also participate in service activities and embrace the principles of inclusion as a member of the university community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or EdD in counselor education or a Ph.D. or EdD in a related field that includes experience as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013.
- ABD candidates will also be considered. However, degrees must be completed by the contract start date of August 2025; otherwise, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2026 in advance of their first scheduled review.
- Background in clinical mental health and/or school counseling.
- Eligible for licensure as an LPC and/or 3+ years K-12 experience as a school counselor or teacher
- Demonstrated excellence and commitment to teaching as clearly evidenced through the statement of teaching philosophy.

- Service as an active member of the university community.
- Potential to develop or maintain a clear research agenda.
- Capacity to attract external funding.
- Ability to work with Spanish-speaking clients and students.
- Experience with program organization and coordination

- Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training drills.
- Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include teaching core courses in counselor education, courses in the clinical mental health counseling emphasis and/or school counseling emphasis. Providing service to the university, participating in department leadership (e.g., department chair, program coordinator, clinical coordinator), advising students, and providing community service. It also includes supervision of students in practicum using our state-of-the-art clinic and internship and expanded social justice-oriented partnerships; implementing program requirements; and participating in research and grant writing activities. Ability to integrate technology and innovative practices into instruction. Commitment to social justice and inclusivity is essential.
DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:
The Counselor Education Department has 6 full-time faculty members and a counseling services manager. The master's program includes a 60-credit program for Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a 60-credit program for School Counseling. The counseling program has been accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and other Related Educational Programs (CACREP) since 2000. The school counseling program is also approved by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
