Assistant Professor - Tenure-Track Position - Literature, Writing and Film - 21344
ATTENTION:
The Department of Literature, Writing, and Film in the College of Letters & Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in English beginning in August 2025 with expertise in Rhetoric and Composition. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching, research, and service.
JOB DETAILS:
The successful candidate will be able to teach first-year composition courses such as Introduction to College Writing and Reading (English 101) and Introduction to College Writing, Reading, and Research (English 102). Depending on qualifications, the candidate may also teach Introduction to Language Study (English 281) as well as departmental courses in developmental English and advanced composition. In addition to teaching, candidates will be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students, results in publications, and contributes to advancing the department, university, and profession. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities that contribute to the program and the department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or its equivalent is required. ABD candidates may apply but must complete their degree by August 2025.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise and teaching interests in first-year composition, curriculum development, multimodal composition, and applied rhetoric.
- The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in and a commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate and first-generation students, clear evidence of scholarly potential, working with diverse populations, and a commitment to serve as an active member of the university community.
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
- Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
- Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Full-time teaching responsibilities include a 4/4 load, which in any given semester is expected to consist of at least two sections of first-year writing and as many as two sections of courses in the candidate's area of expertise. Faculty members serving as advisors and mentors to students are also encouraged to engage students in at least one of the following high-impact teaching practices: project-based production experiences, undergraduate research, travel study, and/or internships. Research expectations require peer-reviewed research or creative activity relevant to the discipline. Service responsibilities include committee work at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community and professional organizations relevant to the candidate's expertise and interests.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $60,000 - $63,000 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications.
