ATTENTION:

 

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, a vibrant and dynamic institution in Whitewater, WI, seeks a creative and energetic individual to join the Dean of Students Office as the Campus (Community) Standards Coordinator (Student Conduct Coordinator, CP066). This is a 1.0 FTE position.

 

JOB DETAILS:

 

The Dean of Students Office at UW-Whitewater strives to ensure the University's teaching, learning, research, and service activities occur in living and learning environments that are safe and free from violence, harassment, fraud, theft, disruption, and intimidation. This position also supports hate/bias, student organizations, and other units in the areas of student rights and responsibilities. The Dean of Students Office is responsible for addressing student academic and nonacademic misconduct, Title IX; this responsibility is separate from and independent of any civil or criminal action resulting from a student's conduct. The office is dedicated to upholding students' constitutional rights, including their freedoms of speech and peaceful assembly.

The Dean of Students Office is one of twelve departments comprising the Division of Student Affairs (DSA). DSA's mission is to cultivate, advance, and interconnect students' academic, professional, personal, and social development and champion a respectful, globally aware, diverse university community. The division actively advances social justice through this work and purposefully strives to offer an affirming environment for all. It is committed to creating working, learning, and living environments in which everyone can develop their potential and contribute fully to the university community.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in student development, college student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience/awareness with college student development. 
  • Ability to prioritize and work with competing demands.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in student development, college student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience related to or providing misconduct or investigations and adjudication, student conduct, preferably in a higher education setting. 
  • Ability to utilize a developmental and educational approach when investigating and adjudicating cases.
  • Demonstrated experience with Title IX cases.
  • Demonstrated experience with restorative practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving a diverse population with cultural competence and sensitivity. 
     

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

This position provides leadership, vision, and strategy for the campus' restorative justice philosophy. It fosters collaboration with internal and external partners to promote a cohesive and inclusive environment. This role is pivotal in relationship building, acting as a visionary and a student advocate who champions the needs and rights of students. The incumbent offers advocacy and ombudsman services as needed, reporting directly to the Dean of Students or the Assistant Dean of Students.

As a general student misconduct coordinator at the University level, this position handles the resolution of non-academic and academic misconduct cases, Title IX support, hate/bias cases, and other student rights and responsibility processes. The role requires a solution-focused approach, employing case management, conflict management, and problem-solving skills to address and resolve issues effectively. Emotional intelligence and flexibility are crucial qualities, empowering the incumbent to handle complex situations with empathy and adaptability.

 

45% Community Standards Coordination

  • Conduct thorough investigations, assess cases, and interview involved parties and witness, and adjudicate for non-academic matters, including student organization-related incidents, as assigned. 
  • Serves as a resource and advisor, clarifying procedures and options available to faculty, staff, students, and student hearing boards in response to student behaviors
  • Facilitates the reporting of student complaints, conducts preliminary investigations into student conduct as appropriate, and organizes conduct hearings to resolve student conduct cases
  • Ensures that student conduct is administered in a fair, impartial, non-adversarial, restorative, and educational manner through the recruitment and training of conduct officers and the hearing board
  • Ensure adherence to academic misconduct cases process and provide support for hearings.
  • May facilitate educational outreach programs to the university and surrounding community regarding issues relevant to student affairs
  • May help coordinate or assist in Title IX investigations and administrative actions


20% Academic Integrity Program Coordination     

  • Receive reports of academic misconduct from instructors and follow up with students who were found responsible.
  • Provide consultation to instructors regarding academic misconduct questions.
  • Educate instructors and students on preventing academic misconduct and the academic misconduct reporting process, procedures, and possible outcomes.
  • Notify Schools and Colleges of students found responsible for academic misconduct violations as appropriate
  • Review and revise academic misconduct procedures, campus policies, and UWS Chapter 14.
  • Administer assessments to students and faculty occasionally to gauge the academic misconduct climate on campus.
     

20% Ombudsman/Advocacy Duties
 

  • Provide educational outreach on community standards, conflict resolution, and restorative justice practices.
  • Work and collaborate with students, faculty, staff, family members, and community providing guidance and resources for student success.  
  • Work through difficult situations with tact, patience, and a sense of humor.
  • Provide training on student rights and responsibilities, conduct, student success, and DOS office services to campus partners and students.

10% Administrative Duties 

  • Review UWW Logs and create cases in the database to be assigned for investigation/adjudication. Route non-conduct reports to the Assistant Dean of Students.
  • Utilize database computer program to effectively and efficiently input all conduct cases and related information.
  • Produce statistical and other reports as needed.
  • Update student records as warranted for student record holds and transcript notations. 
  • Participate in weekly department business and case consultation meetings.
  • Maintain relevant professional development 
  • Represent the DOS office at enrollment events, campus events, and community as requested


5% Division of Student Affairs   

  • Advance the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the Division through day-to-day responsibilities and special projects.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to social justice and inclusive excellence.
  • Represent the Department and Division via campus committees, initiatives, and events as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

 

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $52,000 - $56,000 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications.
