ATTENTION:
The office of Admissions at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Bilingual Admissions Counselor (Admissions and Recruitment Coordinator II, AE084).
JOB DETAILS:
The Bilingual/Spanish Admissions Counselor assists prospective students in navigating the college selection process. This is a 12-month, full-time position that reports to the Assistant Director of Admissions, and will be responsible for recruiting, admitting and enrolling a talented student body. This position will establish and maintain relationships with prospective students, parents, and high school counselors. In addition to general admission duties, this position is responsible for developing and implementing targeted outreach efforts to students in a designated geographic territory. The individual will present information to prospective students during scheduled daily visit presentations, will assist during campus open house events and will perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director. Domestic travel is required, especially during the fall and spring recruitment seasons.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned Bachelor's degree by no later than June 1, 2025
- Bilingual in Spanish/English. Ability to professionally speak, read, write and translate between languages
- Valid driver's license (or ability to obtain a valid driver's license)
- Minimum of one-year experience working with students in a high school or college setting
- Strong written communication and public speaking skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and event planning skills
- Professional experience creating inclusive environments for students
- Minimum of one-year experience in admissions, recruitment, higher education, or marketing related field
- Experience with use of CRM (customer relationship management) systems, specifically Slate
- Familiarity with student information systems, particularly PeopleSoft
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff and faculty
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Willingness and Ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training drills
- Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following examples of duties and responsibilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position, but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position.
General Duties:
- Market, recruit and provide customer support to prospects and applicants through face-to-face interactions, small and large group presentations, educational fairs, telephone and email inquiries, and high school visits. This includes substantial travel primarily in Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
- Build relationships and coordinate recruiting activities with targeted community organizations and school districts. Cultivate relationships with community partners.
- Establish working relationships with high school counselors in assigned regions.
- Coordinate prospective student programming to further develop the commitment to UWW.
- Create and implement effective communication strategies using the CRM and other venues of outreach.
- Use data and current trends to strategically market to and recruit high school students within designated region.
Specific Duties:
- Travel to and recruit students at college fairs and high schools in assigned territories. Attend college fairs specific to bilingual students and services.
- Assist and monitor student application processing and data entry.
- Review applications and make admission decisions in a fair manner, consistent with university and office policy.
- Coordinate on campus visit opportunities, in conjunction with faculty and staff, for bilingual students and families.
- Provide assistance in the selection of various scholarships.
- Collaborate with on campus student groups for recruitment initiatives.
- Field telephone and email inquiries from potential students and families and deliver informational presentations to students who come to campus for a tour.
- Meet with prospective students and their parents during campus visits.
- Be familiar with university policies and procedures, especially Housing, Financial Aid, First Year Experience, and Center for Students with Disabilities, to communicate effectively with prospects.
- Participate in professional organizations, conferences and workshops when appropriate.
- Additional duties as prescribed by the Assistant Director of Admissions.
