Antivirus Software
Antivirus software is a critical component of our overall information security defenses. It is crucial for every computing device that connects to the campus network. Without it, you risk losing sensitive campus information, your files, and even your personal information.
Cisco AMP is pre-installed on campus-owned computers to help protect you. We also offer free antivirus software to install on your home computers.
Antivirus Features
- Cisco AMP uses the latest technology and global threat intelligence to stop malicious behavior on your device before harm is done.
- Proactively blocks malware from running on your computer, by using a combination of file reputation, behavioral indicators, and sandboxing technology to analyze unknown files.
- Continuously analyzes all file activity to detect malicious behavior and retrospectively alert on new threats.
- Performs dynamic file analysis and vulnerability identification.
Getting started with Antivirus
As part of our ongoing partnership with Cisco, all campus-owned devices come pre-installed with the Cisco AMP antivirus program.
For UW-W faculty and staff, an antivirus program is required for all personal devices in order to connect to campus Wi-Fi or to access network services through VPN.
Students are also encouraged to install antivirus software on their devices in order to keep them secure as well as help protect the UW-W network as a whole.
If your personal device does not currently have an antivirus program, faculty, staff, and students may download the free version of AVG.
