Sophomore and Transfers Exploring Program Services

Our Program

Provides information and opportunities for sophomore and transfer students about resources such as grants and scholarships, internships, graduate school, peer mentorships, and other various professional development and high impact practices within their majors. Our goal is to make sophomore and transfer students more comfortable and informed about their campus, while viewing perspectives from other transfer peer mentors.

Our Services

  • Academic Advising - STEPS provides students with academic advising and serves as a liaison to other academic offices and assure that sophomore and transfer students are connected to resources they may need. STEPS also encourages students to seek out career preparation and developmental opportunities such as the Hawk Career Fair, NEON Corporate Fair, Minority Career Day, etc.
  • Financial Resources - STEPS encourages students to apply for the Lawton Grant, which is available for minority students. It encourages students to participate in high impact practices by providing financial opportunities for academic success.
  • Study Tables - Students are provided with the opportunity to study together and share ideas and resources. Students are encouraged to utilize the tutorial center for academic help.
  • High Impact Practices - Information and guidance can be provided for the following opportunities: Associates Degree, Lawton Grant, McNair Scholars Program, Resume Development, Study Abroad Opportunities, Honors Program, Campus Assistant, Warhawk Ambassador, Peer Mentor, Summer Orientation Leader Internships, and Residence Hall Assistant (RA).

Focus and Goals

  • To make sophomore and transfer students more comfortable and informed about their campus, while viewing perspectives from other transfer peer mentors.
  • To provide information about applying and participating in different programs and opportunities available for educational, professional, and personal enrichment.
