Lauree Miller '88, loved her time as a UW-Whitewater student-athlete. She was part of successful basketball and track teams and made some great friends, but she had no idea what an important and enduring role the campus would play in her career.

"I don't think I envisioned this for myself when I went to school here," said Miller, who manages the day-to-day operations of the UW-Whitewater Foundation. "But UW-Whitewater ended up being a huge part of my life." Miller had a short initial stint working on campus in the University Center a few years after graduation, left to be at home with her children, returned in 1999 and over the years assumed greater responsibilities with the foundation.

Miller said much of her work used to be in the background, but there have been opportunities to work more closely with alumni, foundation board members and campus administration. She loves seeing alumni re-engaged with the university.  She said people go through phases in life, but there's usually a time when alumni are ready and able to reconnect with campus. "One of the fun things about this job is seeing and hearing about the success of not only our current students and professors, but what our alumni are doing, where they are in the world and what got them there," Miller said. "I know that happens on a lot of campuses, but there's something about UW-Whitewater that's pretty special."

Miller is married to Jeff Miller '92 MEPD, UW-Whitewater's head cross-country and assistant track coach. They have three adult children: Devin graduated from UW-Whitewater in 2011, Drew graduated from UW-Madison in 2013; and Dawson earned his BBA and MBA degrees from UW-Whitewater in 2015 and 2017. Miller said she enjoys coming to work every day. "There's that old saying," she says. "Do what you love and I enjoy helping people and the work university advancement and the foundation does to support UW-Whitewater."
