PIE Student Application Process
UW-Whitewater PIE Student Checklist
- Meet with your counselor to make sure you meet the requirements of your school to participate.
- After registering through your school for a PIE course; begin your online application process to be admitted as a special student at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. See step one below.
- Read all the directions for registration and tuition payments VERY carefully!
- When you school approves your participation in the course, please read thoroughly and complete both steps to ensure your enrollment in the PIE Program.
Step One: Apply Online to UW-Whitewater
The online application process is free for PIE students. By enrolling in a UW-Whitewater PIE course, you will be a UW-Whitewater student and eligible to receive college credit for your work. Your personal information will not be shared but is required to ensure a correct UW-Whitewater record when requesting your transcript. After submitting your online application to UW-Whitewater,
- You will receive a letter of acceptance from the UW-Whitewater Admissions office mailed to your home address.
- Be sure to keep this letter as it contains important login information for Step Two.
Step Two: Set Up Your UW-W Password and Email
By setting up a personalized password, you will have access to the university registration system (WINS) and your university email account. Your Net-ID and password may also be used for the online course system, Canvas. Let’s get started:
- Obtain your student ID number and Net-ID from your UW-Whitewater admission letter.
- Go to the UW-Whitewater password management site
- Click on “Login”; fill in your Net-ID and use your 7-digit ID number as the initial password, and then click the “Login” button.
- On the “Change Password” page, enter your 7-digit ID number as the old password, then create a new personalized password.
- You can then log in to WINS from the UW-W home page in the upper right corner.
- For email access, go to UWW home page, click on E-Mail in the top right corner and login with your Net-ID and personalized password. Check your email often.

Family Education Rights and Privacy Act
FERPA is the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act that sets forth requirements regarding the privacy of student records. FERPA governs the release of student education records maintained by the University and access to these records.
Students are afforded certain rights concerning their education records, including:
- the right to inspect and review the education records
- the right to seek to have the records amended
- the right to have some control over the disclosure of the information from the records
If you would like to allow your P.I.E. High School instructor to discuss your PIE class grades and performance with a parent, guardian or other individual, please complete this form and provide it to your High School instructor.
If you would like to allow your student records to be disclosed to any other individual or for any other purpose, please complete FERPA Authorization from.
Credit Overload
Dual enrollment students are normally restricted to taking up to seven credits of UW-Whitewater courses per semester. If you plan to exceed this limit in any one semester, you will need to email a completed Credit Overload Form to the UW-Whitewater Admissions Office, uwwadmit@uww.edu.
