Leah Blasczyk

Leah Blasczyk recently graduated in May ’21 and is currently working as a Game Engineer at Filament Games in Madison, WI.

“I graduated with three B.S. degrees majoring in Media Arts and Game Development, Computer Science, and Pure Mathematics. Overall, I graduated Summa Cum Laude and am proud to have been awarded Best in MAGD for Spring 2021 from the program.”

What made you want to pursue a degree in MAGD?
“I have always loved video games, so I thought it would be fun to try making them myself. That passion evolved into a desire to be a part of something that makes people smile.”

How did your UW-Whitewater experience prepare you for your career or transform your life?
“The MAGD professors greatly helped me gain experience in my major through internships, research opportunities, and other outside-of-class activities that tested my skills.”

Where do you draw inspiration from?
“I don't really have a single point of inspiration - I enjoy taking inspiration from all aspects of my life; anything can become a game.”

What is your proudest accomplishment to date?
“It’s being able to complete a triple major within four years of college. I didn't take 18 credits every semester either. I hope that my accomplishment can show others that you can achieve everything you aspire to do if you have the commitment and dedication to do it.”

What advice would you give your former self?
“The best advice I could give myself is to try new things even if it’s scary. You are never going to do anything if you are too scared to try it. For example, try going to a club! Meeting new people is scary, but those people could turn into your closest friends that you never would have met otherwise.”

What advice would you give your future self?
“I would tell my future self to never stop learning. I hope that I will continue to improve my skills and learn new ones as I progress in my career.”
