ATTENTION:

 

The College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks an Associate Dean (AE066).

 

This will be a full-time Limited Appointment serving at the pleasure of the Chancellor. To learn more about this type of appointment please see the UW System Administrative Policy 1251: Appointment Terms & Designation of Positions and the Personnel Rules.

JOB DETAILS:

 

The Associate Dean shall serve in a general assistant capacity to the Dean and will perform functions assigned by the Dean.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • PhD or EdD in a field reflected in the programs offered in the College of Education and Professional Studies.
  • Associate Professor or Professor rank as faculty.
  • Current experience as a full-time faculty or staff member in an area reflected in the programs offered in the College of Education and Professional Studies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of the Department of Public Instruction and licensure programs.
  • Ability to assist programs in obtaining and maintaining DPI approval.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Dean to develop new programs that reflect the needs of the departments, the region and the field.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience with successful oversight of multiple offices.
  • Higher education leadership experience.
     

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of university budget processes.
  • Strong understanding of the college and university.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to lead large projects with extreme detail.
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
     

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Associate Dean shall serve in a general assistant capacity to the Dean and will perform functions assigned by the Dean which include the following:

 

General Responsibilities:

  1. Represent the College at various campus and off campus functions as necessary.
  2. Assist the Dean with strategic planning and implementation.
  3. Undertake special projects as assigned.
  4. Oversee and maintain integrity of all programs leading to licensure.
  5. Work directly with the DPI on licensure reports, visits, and approval of programs. Serve as primary contact with DPI and leads EPP and LP approval process.
  6. Provide support to departments and programs in matters related to teacher education, certification, licensure, and PK-12 placement procedures. 
  7. Assist Dean with recruitment, search and screen and hiring processes.  
  8. Provide guidance and training for search committees as needed.  

Curriculum & Programs:

  1. Oversee and maintain integrity of programs in the College. Act as a liaison with the Graduate School.  
  2. Assist or assign individuals to work with faculty regarding curriculum proposal processes if the curriculum chair is not available.
  3. Oversight of course catalogues and course offerings including the schedule of classes.
  4. Oversight and responsibility for COEPS graduate programs. Serve as ex-officio member of the COEPS Graduate Council.
  5. Serve as ex-officio of the COEPS Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and University Curriculum Committee.
  6. Support programs in assessment projects as needed, such as UW-Whitewater program reviews, annual reviews for DPI, and program accreditation reports.
  7. Take lead or assign individuals to complete assessment reports such as PEDS, Title II, DPI, as needed.  

Personnel:

  1. Supervise the Certifying Officer, the Teaching, Learning and Technology Manager and the Director of Clinical Experiences. 
  2. Oversee the work of the Office of Clinical Experiences.
  3. Oversee the work of the Certifying Officer (in cooperation with the Assistant Dean).
  4. Oversee the work of the Learning and Technology Manager.
  5. Supervise Administrative Assistant providing support to the Assistant and Associate Dean and to the College (in cooperation with the Assistant Dean)

Outreach:

  1. Develop, support, and guide external partnerships, especially those related to licensure programs. 
  2. Assist with Dean's Advisory Board and alumni activities.
  3. Lead work with Dean's Advisory Council (student advisory board).
  4. Responsible for alumni and employer surveys and data gathering to support program improvement.

Faculty Development:

  1. Responsible for faculty development and programs, including fall and spring College forums. 
  2. Oversee the awards and recognitions programs for faculty and staff. 
  3. Provide ongoing support, planning and assistance to the COEPS technology-related planning and activities financially supported through Distance Education Funds.

Fiscal:

  1. Maintain and award student travel grants supported by the Harris Gibson fund. 
  2. Assist faculty and act as resource with grant preparation and submission as needed. 
  3. Manage the budget related to Distance Education funds and proposals for the use of the funds.
  4. Assist Dean with foundation activities and fundraising.

Associate Dean will serve on the following Committees in the role indicated:

  1. Dean's Advisory Council to serve as support to student leaders and members.
  2. Faculty & Staff Awards Committee as the ex-officio chairperson.
  3. Inclusive Excellence & Diversity Committee as an ex-officio member.
  4. International Education Committee as the ex-officio chairperson.
  5. Strategic Planning & Budget Committee as the chairperson.
