Athletic Trainer and Lecturer of Kinesiology - UWW Internal Posting - 21013

ATTENTION:

The Departments of Intercollegiate Athletics and Kinesiology are seeking an Athletic Trainer (HS076) and a Lecturer (TL020). This position will be split as 50% Athletic Trainer and 50% as a Lecturer in Kinesiology.

This position reports to the Athletic Training Director and the Kinesiology Chair. Will maintain good working relationships with Head Coaches, Athletic Director, Athletic Trainers, Director of Sports Performance, Athletic Department Support Staff, and other Department and University personnel.

Academic Staff positions are provided fixed-term appointments with annual renewals unless otherwise noted. Reappointments for subsequent terms is dependent upon performance, University funding and external forces.

JOB DETAILS:

The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, to involvement in Athletic Department activities. Considering the wide range of responsibilities, the trainer must be adept in many fields.

To successfully fulfill these many duties, this person must deal effectively with many entities: athletes, coaches, health service personnel and physicians. Maintaining the trust and confidence of all these entities is necessary. Moreover, the assistant trainer should keep abreast of significant improvements by attending seminars, workshops, classes, and clinics.

Violation of University, NCAA or Conference rules on the part of Athletic Department personnel may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • NATABOC Certification
  • AED/CPR Certification
  • State of Wisconsin Athletic Training Licensure or eligible to obtain by the start of the academic year 

 Preferred Characteristics:

  • Two years of intercollegiate athletic training coverage and previous football athletic training coverage

  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills                                                           
     

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ATHLETIC TRAINER
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assess and treat athletic injuries.
2. Work with coaches and strength & conditioning staff to develop and administer programs for the health and safety of student-athletes.
3. Develop and conduct educational programs for coaches and student-athletes.
4. Refer injured athletes and consult with Team Physicians.
5. After consulting with the injured athlete and Team Physicians, inform the coaching staff of the condition of the athlete and his/her ability to perform.
6. Cooperatively devise rehabilitation programs with the coach, strength & conditioning staff, and student-athlete.
7. Maintain a file of insurance coverage and medical history on student-athletes.
8. Maintain injury and treatment logs on student-athletes.
9. Assist with the administration of the Athletic Department’s alcohol and drug programs.
10. Participate in department meetings, functions and support department outreaches.
11. Assume other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.

LECTURER

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

TEACHING/COLLEGE INVOLVEMENT:
1.    Teach physical education and/or human performance courses. All instructional staff at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater may be required to teach evening and/or weekend classes.
2.    Engage in recruiting activities for the Kinesiology Department.
3.    Work with the Kinesiology faculty on course development and design.
4.    Maintain regular weekly office hours.

GENERAL ADMINISTRATION

SCHOLARLY AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY:
1. Attend job-related clinics and conferences.
2. Maintain current membership in professional organizations.

UNIVERSITY AND COMMUNITY SERVICE:

1. Serve on department and university committees as needed.
2. Serve as a resource to the community in areas of expertise.
