The University Center at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Program Specialist Intersectional & Greek Programs (Student Affairs Program Specialist, AE192). 

 

JOB DETAILS:

 

The Program Specialist Intersectional & Greek Programs responsibilities include leadership in designing and implementing campus-wide programs in the area of intersectional experiences and identities. These efforts include intersectional education, identity enrichment programs, and intersectional outreach. They reach out to and work closely with faculty, departments, organizations, and alumni to create these events and opportunities for the Campus community.  The position also leads the MLK Celebration campus committee and identity education efforts annually. Position responsibilities will also include providing Greek Community support and advising 1 of 4 councils of the Greek Community including President monthly meetings, assessment data gathering, training, and recognition.  Additionally, they will support unit leadership program coordination, ULEAD, and coordinate Greek programs semester as assigned. The position is also responsible for other departmental and campus planning as needed and evening and weekend hours will be necessary.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • 1 year of experience in organization advisement at a college/university setting or work experience with collaborative event planning.
  • Commitment to student development, teaching and the ability to assess student needs and develop programs to meet those needs.

Preferred Characteristics:

  • Master's degree and related work experience, preferably in higher education.
  • Sensitivity to students and an ability to relate on many different levels to the diverse student, faculty/staff, and community contacts this position encounters is essential.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
 

Unit:

  • Develop successful, collaborative relationships within and outside of the University community in order to enhance student learning and achieve the unit's mission and goals.
  • Represent the department to the University community and external constituencies, such as national organizations and Alumni.  Ensure the department is well respected by those we serve (including students, faculty, University administration, parents, and employers) by effectively communicating, and sharing the success and contribution of the unit and Greek Life to the University's mission, strategic plan, and recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Participate in staff meetings as well as participate as a member of the Greek Advising Team.
  • Will be an active participant in following applicable safety rules, regulations, University policy and risk reduction including necessary training and drills
  • Assist with communicating the purposes & values of the Co-Curricular experience with students, faculty, families & community.
  • Support and maintain the department's brand and ensure the department complies with university branding requirements. This includes the execution of departmental identity and logo in all media formats (print, electronic, and collateral), and includes conducting annual student satisfaction surveys.
  • Develop, implement, and disseminate marketing materials through various communication mediums utilizing appropriate technologies and techniques.
  • Provide data for and disseminate the Greek Community Annual Executive Report in coordination with the Greek Life and Community Outreach Manager. 
  • Collect, analyze, prepare, summarize, and disseminate data and trends relevant to areas of responsibility.
  • Serve on various University Committees as assigned.  

Advising Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervision of Student Activities & Involvement:  Graduate Assistant for Intersectionality (1) and Intersection Program Interns (3) 
  • Support the Programing Specialist- Enrichment, in supervising the Warhawk Connection Center Interns (3) and their work providing support to customers, managing the Warhawk Connection Center and its projects. 
  • Advising, with support of Student Activities and Involvement's Greek Advising Team, the Interfraternity Council (IFC) fraternities (9 chapters) in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of individual chapter and full council events, initiatives, and programs. Additional responsibilities include: attending meetings, events, and trainings as needed, completion of monthly presidents meetings, and meeting with chapter consultants as needed.


Programmatic:

  • Greek - Support Greek Info Nights with the support of the Greek Life and Community Outreach Manager as directed.
  • Greek - Greek 101 and development of educational materials with support from the Greek Advising Team.
  • Development - Planning and Coordination of developmental programming of SAI in Collaboration with the Programming Specialist for Involvement.

Supervision Received: 

General supervision received from the Director of Student Activities & Involvement.

Supervision Exercised:

Direct supervision of the Student Activities & Involvement Graduate Assistant for Intersectionality; Intersectional Program Interns (3+) Greek Council Executive Board (9) and Presidents (9).

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

 

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $54,000 - $62,000 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications.
