Jodie Parys

Limited English Proficiency Coordinator

Dr. Jodie Parys (she/her/hers) is the Limited English Proficiency Coordinator for Intergenerational Technology Services (IGeTS) at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She is also a Spanish Professor in the Department of World Languages and Cultures and is the Director of the Community-Based Learning Program at UW-W. She has a Ph.D. in Latin American Literature with an emphasis in Second Language Acquisition. She is also a certified medical interpreter and translator. She has worked extensively with older adults in skilled care and assisted living settings, as well as through her past work as a Spanish language interpreter for area health care systems. She specifically enjoys helping to remove linguistic barriers that prevent these community members from accessing services. She also enjoys the learning and sharing that occurs through intergenerational interactions. In her free time, Jodie enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, reading, and travel (especially in Latin America). She provides services in English and Spanish.
