Trauma Informed Educational Practice - Online Graduate Certificate

The online graduate certificate in Trauma Informed Educational Practice prepares professionals with undergraduate degrees in education or related fields to provide support for districts whose students have been impacted by trauma. Certificate holders will acquire interprofessional and team-based approaches to trauma prevention and trauma intervention. Certificate holders will be able to provide leadership in building responsive practices in both educational and community settings. Participants may be special educators, general educators, speech therapists, school counselors, school social workers, school psychologists, school administrators, or others committed to providing support for students impacted by trauma. Participants do not need to have a teaching license to enroll. To successfully earn the certificate, students must receive a 3.0 or above in all certificate courses.
Note: Students can choose to combine the Trauma Informed Educational Practice certificate with another Special Education graduate certificate while completing the online Master’s Degree in Special Education-Evidence Based Practice emphasis.

Certificate Overview
The program requires completion of four courses (12 credits) offered online in asynchronous format:
The Trauma Informed Educational Practice certificate courses are:
- COUNSED 705: Building Resilience: Crisis and Trauma Informed Practice (3 credits)
- SPECED 703: Promoting Reform Through Collaborative Leadership (3 credits)
- SPECED 732: Facilitating Systems Change for Trauma Sensitive Schools (3 credits)
- SPECED 766: Pluralistic Relationships: Family, Schools, and Community Agencies (3 credits)
All credits in the certificate can count toward a Master of Science in Education in Special Education through the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. To successfully earn the certificate, students must receive a 3.0 or above in all certificate courses.
Admission Requirements
To qualify for admission to the certificate program, students must have a bachelor's degree from a recognized institution and meet graduate admission criteria.

Course materials
Graduate students can purchase textbooks and other instructional materials through the University Bookstore or elsewhere online. Students should verify what materials are needed with their instructor.
Financial aid
Students enrolled in the Graduate certificate programs are not federal aid eligible.
Students completing a certificate with a degree program may be eligible for financial aid in the form of grants, loans, scholarships, or employment. All of these make up a “Financial Aid Package” and may be offered singly or in various combinations.
