Flexible coursework options at URock
UW-Whitewater at Rock County offers flexible, online courses in a wide variety of subjects. From working adults to students in universities across the country, URock’s online courses have helped a wide range of students reach their goals. If you just need a few classes — or even just one class — to graduate, reach a career goal, or complete a professional development requirement, URock is here for you!
URock’s online classes are available for current UW-Whitewater at Rock County students, returning students looking for a career change, and even students of other universities.
Our online courses are held during the semester as well as in the summer and January terms, enabling students to earn their credits on their own time. The asynchronous nature of many of our online courses — meaning they are not scheduled at a given time but are rather available on demand — gives students, especially working adults, even more freedom with their time.
Some classes even have lecture- or lab-only options, to cut down on the time commitment and cost if students already have the required credits for their lab or lecture experience.
Flexible online courses at URock are:
- Transferable: your credits earned will readily transfer to any other accredited institutions
- Mostly asynchronous
- Open to non-URock students and interested adults
- Available year-round
- Taught by experienced professors
- Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission
- An affordable degree completion option
Programs offered
Our students’ needs are as varied as the course options we offer. Some need just one class — one! — or a few credits to hit a critical goal. Others need a more flexible option to take a key STEM course, or a smaller class with more opportunities for one-on-one instruction. And some just need classes that they can take on their own schedule, fitting them around their busy work or home life.
URock has a number of flexible online classes to meet all of those needs — and more.
Are you looking to complete a math and science class to update your transcript? URock’s flexible online courses allow working adults to complete these updates to satisfy admission requirements, whether you are a pre-engineering, pre-nursing, other pre-health or environmental science student.
Each course is taught by a credentialed instructor who is an expert in their field. Instructors maintain online visiting hours, provide prompt feedback on work, and keep students informed throughout the course.
Popular STEM completion courses at URock include:
- College Algebra
- Engineering Fundamentals
- Medical Terminology
- General Chemistry I and II
- Statistics
- Human Health and Disease (Biology)

Designed primarily for working adults, the Online Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) was designed to offer a flexible degree completion pathway for students who hold an applied associate degree from a technical college or 30 college credits.
Choose an already established emphasis — criminology, digital marketing, education (FoTE to K-9), human services, leadership, occupational safety, operations and supply chain management, and professional selling — or design your own, based on your personalized goals.
Who benefits from a BAAS program?
- Professionals who need a bachelor’s degree to be able to gain certification, advance in their career, or qualify for a raise
- Students who need to complete their bachelor’s degree to qualify for a master’s program
- Adults who wish to keep learning but may face multiple challenges, including caregiving demands, that limit their ability to attend in-person classes
This program is designed for working adults, including students who are veterans or service members, who have some college credits but no degree — sometimes from multiple institutions. Unlike many other degree completion programs, our advisors work very hard to take in as many of your hard-earned credits as possible.
Students with a completed associate degree generally complete their bachelor’s degree with the BAAS program in 60-65 credits. Internships and credit for prior learning help shorten time to degree completion.
For more information about UW-Whitewater at Rock County’s BAAS degree program, visit the website or contact BAAS@uww.edu. To apply, visit the BAAS webpage on UW-Whitewater Online.
UW-Whitewater at Rock County offers a variety of classes entirely online, many in flexible formats — online, streaming, or face-to-face — designed to fit your schedule.
