In Great Teaching, Sumin Shin, an assistant professor in the communication department, remembers when he was new to campus. Shin teaches how various advertising strategies motivate people and influence behavior. He also advises the advertising staff of the Royal Purple student newspaper.
“I cannot forget the first semester at UW-Whitewater. Everything was unfamiliar to me. From time to time, I recall the moments when I felt my work was stressful. The memory makes me think I have improved and encourages me to keep working hard,” said Shin. “The best part about teaching is that we (all) learn many things from the courses. I get insightful and creative ideas from class discussions. Such new knowledge and inspiration lead me to come up with new research and teaching ideas.”
