Past Plays, Present Lights: How Design Shapes Our Experience of Theatre

March 30, 2025

Matthew Imhoff, Assistant Professor, Theatre and Dance

Design for the stage plays a determinative role in how audiences experience a piece of theatre. In this lecture, Professor Imhoff will use examples from his career designing Off-Broadway and in New York, regionally, and locally at UWW to look behind the scenes at how scenic and lighting design influence performances, how classical plays are reimagined through design for contemporary audiences, and how collaborative partnerships culminate in bringing them to life on the stage.

Lectures will be held on Mondays at 3 p.m. in the Olm Fellowship Hall of Fairhaven Senior Services, 435 West Starin Road, Whitewater. They are open to the public and registration is not required. Lectures may be recorded and posted to our Fairhaven Lecture website and YouTube channel. Videos of lectures in this series and in past series can be accessed for free any time after they are posted online.
