Marieke Spiegelhoff is herself a graduate of the UW educational system, earning her Masters degree from UW-Milwaukee in the field of communication. After teaching for four years at Winona State University, in MN, she returned to her home town of Lake Geneva, WI. While there, she licensed families in Walworth County who wanted to become foster parents. Eventually, she returned to her first love of teaching before becoming a foster parent herself.
Marieke has been teaching at UW-Whitewater since 2006. She teaches Comm 110, interpersonal communication, conflict, and listening. Marieke enjoys working with college students in both an online and face-to-face capacity. Her goal in the classroom is to help students bridge the information they find in their textbooks to real life and determine how that fits in with their everyday experiences.
Outside of work, Marieke stays busy raising her seven kids alongside her husband, who also works in education. She is passionate about kids in foster care having permanency and was a foster parent for Walworth County for 15 years. She also finds time to use her creative side in the kitchen baking and decorating gourmet cakes.
