Xiaohong Zhang was born in Hubei, China. She received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hubei Academy of Fine Arts in China. Zhang explores the relationship between gender, art and technology and engages technology as a medium and subject in her art.
Xiaohong Zhang has exhibited both nationally and internationally. She has held solo exhibitions at venues such as Wisconsin Union Galleries at UW-Madison, James Watrous Gallery in Madison, Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University, The Roberta A. Fiskum Art Gallery at UW Whitewater and West Bend Art Museum in Wisconsin. She has been included in group exhibitions at John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, National Museum of China, Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, The Bendheim Gallery in CT, Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center, SangMyung Gallery in South Korea, Bradley University Galleries, Gardiner Gallery at Oklahoma State, Art Gallery at Southwestern Oklahoma State, Brick City Gallery at Missouri State University, Loranger Gallery at University of Detroit Mercy, Visual art Center at UT Austin, Max L. Gatov Galleries in CA, Toyoura Historical Museum in Japan, Duncan of Jordan stone College of Art in Scotland, Mill Pound House Gallery in New York, Asian American Women Artists Alliance in New York and Whitewater Art Alliance. In 2011 she collaborated with her colleague Michael Flanagan to host an international traveling exhibition “ Across the Divide” and Symposium at University of Wisconsin Whitewater.
