John Schimenz joined the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (UWW) sports performance staff during the 2020-21 year, predominantly working with the basketball, football, and swim/dive programs.

Prior to joining the Warhawks, Schimenz was a graduate student strength and conditioning coach at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL) from 2017-20, assisting with the football, softball, swimming, and wrestling programs. He presented training load and fatigue research at the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Wisconsin State Clinic.

Schimenz started his professional career in the New Prague Area School District in Minnesota, where he served as the strength and conditioning coordinator, physical education teacher, and math teacher from 2014-17.

During his undergraduate career at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF), Schimenz held internships in strength and conditioning at UWRF, the University of Minnesota, and Webber International University (Florida).

Schimenz graduated with a master's degree in exercise and sport science from UWL in 2020 and an undergraduate degree in the same subject from UWRF in 2014.

Schimenz is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the NSCA and a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach by USA Weightlifting.  Additionally, he serves as a kinesiology instructor at UWW.  He resides in Jefferson with his wife, Annie.
