EXAMPLES OF CURRICULUM CONTENT:

  • Communication/Relationships/Social Skills – Friendships, dating, strangers, email, phone calls, first impressions, conflict resolution, journals, newsletter
  • Current Events/Safety Skills – Signs, fire, tornado, 911, internet, first aid
  • Daily Living Skills – Nutrition, grocery shopping, meal prep, proper storage, laundry, cleaning, calendars, schedules, appointments, hygiene, fitness and recreational activities, applied instruction in residence hall and community
  • Self-Advocacy/Self-Determination – Strengths & challenges, asking for help, advocating for needs, understanding disability & impact on various areas of life
  • Employment Skills/Career Development – Employment goals, resume, applications, interview skills, job etiquette, job shadowing, applied instruction on campus and in community
  • Functional Academics – Budgeting, checking account, money/debit/credit, savings, tipping, measurements, addressing an envelope
  • University Coursework – Many options including exercise walking, archery, swimming, tennis, badminton, weight lifting, and other areas aligned with student interests. Lots of engagement with traditional undergraduate students.
