HERG (Closed)

- Application is CLOSED as it applied to spring 2021 -

Background

The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) makes available funding for UW-Whitewater to provide emergency relief grants to students for a component of the cost of attendance or for COVID-related emergency costs, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care) or child care.

If you meet the student eligibility criteria (described in the next section), you may be eligible for a federal Higher Education Relief Grant.

See below under the Application Process tab for application information. The submission deadline for the application is Monday, March 15, 2021.

Student Eligibility

  • Be enrolled spring 2021 for at least 1 credit as a degree-seeking student.
    • Students who graduated at the end of fall 2020 or winterim 2021 are ineligible.
    • Incoming students admitted for summer or fall 2021 are ineligible.
  • As the CRRSAA legislation requires students with exceptional need be prioritized, a 2020-2021 Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA must have been submitted to make this determination. Exceptional need is typically identified by Federal Pell Grant eligibility.
    • If a 2020-2021 FAFSA has not been filed, proceed with completing one immediately.  Processing time by the US Department of Education is typically 5-7 business days.  Ensure that the FAFSA is submitted to the US Department of Education in enough time to allow the FAFSA to be received by UW-Whitewater (FAFSA school code 003926) by March 15.
    • The 2020-2021 FAFSA needs to be error-free, not rejected and not missing a signature(s), with a calculated Expected Family Contribution.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or national, permanent resident, or other eligible noncitizen as defined on the FAFSA.
  • Unlike funding under the CARES Act, students failing Satisfactory Academic Progress and those enrolled exclusively in online programs are eligible.
  • Funds are needed by the student for a component of the cost of attendance or for COVID-related emergency costs, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care) or child care.
