What is the UWW Honors Program?
The Honors Program is a community of high-achieving students who engage in enriched coursework, research opportunities, and leadership development.
What are the benefits of joining the Honors Program?
Benefits include priority registration, smaller class sizes, specialized courses, research opportunities, and graduation with honors.
How do I know if I am eligible to join the UHP?
Entering first-year students who meet the official criteria listed below will be automatically enrolled during their application process to UW-Whitewater if they have an unweighted high school GPA of 3.7 or higher. Students already enrolled at UW-W and incoming transfer students may apply for admission into the Honors Program if their cumulative GPA at UW-Whitewater is at least 3.4 and they have earned at least 12 credits. The Honors Director determines admittance on a case-by-case basis.
How do I apply to the Honors Program?
You can apply online through the Honors Program application. Applications are typically reviewed on a rolling basis.
What GPA do I need to stay in the Honors Program?
Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.4 to remain in good standing.
What are honors courses like?
Honors courses are designed to be more academically challenging and enriching than non-honors courses. They provide opportunities for more discussion as well as more independent and creative work.
Can I convert a regular course into an Honors course?
Yes! Through an "Honors Contract," you can work with a professor to add an honors component to a standard course.
Is there an opportunity for Honors students to study abroad?
Yes, Honors students are encouraged to study abroad, and some programs offer specific Honors courses.
What is an H-Option Project?
An H-Option Project is a formal contract between an Honors student and professor. It allows the student to receive honors credit(s) in a course that does not have an honors designation. The H-Option requires the student to work with the professor to design and implement an honors curriculum that goes above and beyond the regular course requirements. Students will receive honors credits upon successful completion of the H-Option with a course grade of "B" or higher. To learn more, visit the H-Option page of the website.
Will my diploma and transcript reflect my Honors status?
Yes, graduating Honors students receive a special designation on their diploma and transcript.
Are there special graduation ceremonies for Honors students?
Honors graduates may be recognized at a special ceremony or receive additional graduation regalia.
