STARS Silver Certification
The Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS), a program by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), is a transparent, self-reporting framework for college and universities to measure their sustainability performance. On April 22, 2015, UW-Whitewater formally submitted their application for this assessment and was awarded a Silver Certification for their efforts. The full assessment can be found on AASHE’s site here.
University Housing contributed greatly to this endeavor through its facilities and programming initiatives on campus. A few programs that were included in the credits for STARS included the following.
- Our Eco-Rep Program
- The monthly Greener Dub Newsletters
- The Tips for Keeping your Room Green Brochure
- University Housing’s Student Sustainability Coordinator Position
- Participation in RecycleMania
- Participation in Campus Conservation Nationals
- University Housing’s Sustainability Web site
- Signage in our LEED Certified Green Building, Starin Hall
- Jitters Coffee House
- University Housing’s Spring Sustainability Speaker Series
- and much more!
University Housing and the rest of the Campus is committed to keeping our STARS rating and improving it in the coming years. The STARS program can provide a road map towards where we want to be. For more information about AASHE and STARS you can check out their Web site here.
