If you are a student/athlete, please consult with your head coach or Keri Carollo (carollok@uww.edu) in Athletics before making any changes to your fall 2020 schedule
The S/NC (for UGRD) grading change will not impact your visa status directly. You must continue to maintain full time enrollment and meet your in-person/hybrid requirements. Please direct questions to ISSS (International Student and Scholars Services). If you are studying on an exchange agreement, please work with your home university to determine if S/NC grading plan is acceptable.
Students receiving Federal VA benefits - the VA does not typically make payments for classes resulting in nonpunitive grades and rules about nonpunitive grades have not changed. However, if COVID-19 is reported as mitigating circumstances for the student’s receipt of a nonpunitive grade (i.e., Fail in a P/F or S/NC class) VA will pay for the class. If you plan to take an S/NC (for UGRD) or P/F (for GRAD) please email, the Veteran Services team as your certification will need to be adjusted to reflect this change.
Students receiving WI GI Bill - who plan to take a S/NC (for UGRD) or P/F (for GRAD) classes will be covered.
Students receiving WI National Guard Tuition Grant – undergraduate students will need to have at least one class with a letter grade to receive the fall 2020 reimbursement. If you take all S/NC you WILL NOT be reimbursed.
The U.S. Department of Education requires all students to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) in order to remain eligible for financial aid. Please see the entire policy here: http://www.uww.edu/financialaid/policies/academic-progress
One component of SAP that may be impacted by choosing to move a course to the S/NC (for UGRD) or P/F (for GRAD) grading option is the Pace component of the SAP policy.
All undergraduate and graduate students are required to successfully complete 67 percent of the credits they attempt, which is the Pace measurement. The successful completion of a credit attempted is credit for which a grade of A, B, C, D, or S is received. A grade of F, W, U, I, NC, or N represents unsatisfactory completion of a course. Therefore, you need to know that if you receive an NC or F for a course, those credits will count as attempted credits, but not count as successfully completed credits.
The other component of SAP that may be impacted by choosing to move a course to the S/NC (for UGRD) or P/F (for GRAD) grading option is the cumulative grade point average (GPA) of the SAP policy.
Students are required to maintain a minimum grade point average, according to the chart below. Note that a grade of S/NC (for UGRD) or P/F (for GRAD) will not impact your cumulative GPA in the negative nor the positive as there are no grade points assigned under this grading option.
Student Type | Minimum, Cumulative GPA |
---|---|
Undergraduate: 1-36 attempted credits | 1.50 |
Undergraduate: 37 attempted credits and above | 2.00 |
Transfer students | 2.00 |
Graduate (masters, or doctoral) | 3.00 |
Students should check the EXEMPT course listing to verify if a course is eligible for the S/NC (for UGRD) or P/F (for GRAD) option. Please direct any questions you have about completing your degree requirements to your college.
