Artist: Derek Hambly
Exhibit Statement
I like to push my paint around. I like to build it and sculpt it. I like to form it into vibrant motion and emotion. I like to make windswept trees sing and dance. This is a collection of recent works, expressionist landscapes, and still life, and a chance for people to see energy and color jumping off of the canvas. It's a collection of expressions. Great ideas and strong composition make great art. Fortunately, nature provides ready-made, well-constructed compositions, and through the use of very thickly applied oil paint, it gets an extra edge and dimension, which helps express the movement and power of our natural world.
