Artist: Andy Warhol
In collaboration with the Crossman Gallery

Several years ago, the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts reached out to universities around the country to ask who might want to acquire art by the famous Pop artist. The Crossman Gallery Director at the time, Michael Flanagan, jumped at the chance to bring some of this remarkable collection to UW-Whitewater. It began in 2009, with a gift of over 150 Polaroids taken in the 1970s and 1980s, and five years later, seven large colorful screenprints were added to the Crossman’s permanent collection of art. Several students at the time were integral to the process of cataloguing and digitizing the artwork. As the new Crossman Gallery Director, I hope to offer more generations of students opportunities to work closely with the art collection, which ultimately belongs to them.
