Pregnancy

UHCS Services

When you're wondering if you're pregnant, regardless of whether it is a planned or unplanned pregnancy, it can be a very stressful time. The staff at UHCS are here to help! We provide pregnancy testing, thorough pregnancy options counseling, referrals for prenatal care, as well as contraceptive counseling for students with negative test results who want to avoid pregnancy at this time.

Overview

Pregnancy testing is accurate from about 7-10 days after the date sexual intercourse occurred or any time after a missed menstrual period. There are many over the counter options for pregnancy testing, and while some of these may be high quality and deliver accurate results, they are less reliable than lab tests. Early in pregnancy, a first morning urine sample and the use of a lab-quality pregnancy test gives you the most accurate results. At UHCS, we typically use urine-based testing, which is processed on site in about 30 minutes, but also offer blood-based testing for pregnancy, which is sent out for processing, so then it takes about 1-2 business days for results.

Students are welcome to bring a partner, friend, or other support person to the visit with you, if you'd like. UHCS keeps up to date information on local resources for abortion, adoption, and referrals for prenatal care. We are also able to help you locate additional support services on campus and in the community.
