What is Personal Training?

Personal Training is Individualized Instruction that Incorporates one's health history, goals, and current lifestyle into a comprehensive and educational exercise program that meets the client's specific needs, whether those include general health and fitness goals, weight loss, or sport-specific training.

What is an Assessment?

The Assessment is a 1-hour appointment where the Personal Trainer wil discuss your goals as well as administer a series of exercise tests. These tests include blood pressure, body composition (skin calipers), cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, muscular strength and enduranceWhy Hire a Personal Trainer?

Eligibility

Participants MUST have a Fitness Membership and be cleared for participation from the Rec Sports Office.

Required Paperwork

EACH client is required to fill out a registration form. Both can be found in Williams Center 100 (Rec Sports Office), the University Fitness Center, or can be printed off from here. Once completed, turned in together, and approved, a Personal Trainer will be assigned. Please be aware that this COULD take up to 5 business days. All sessions expire one year from date of purchase.

ACE Personal Training Prep Course - PEPROF 315 (3 credits)

Course Objectives/Description
This course is designed to provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills in preparation for a national certification exam in personal training. Topics include guidelines for instructing safe, effective, and purposeful exercise, essentials of the client-trainer relationship, conducting health and fitness assessments, and designing and implementing appropriate exercise programming. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Understand and apply the ACE Integrated Fitness Training Model
  2. Understand the application of principles of exercise science, human anatomy, and biomechanics to movement design and exercise instruction.
  3. Understand principles and methods of training for cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to individualize exercise instruction for apparently healthy adults using an exercise progression model.
  5. Demonstrate the proper usage of various commercial fitness machines and equipment utilizing appropriate exercise guidelines and spotting techniques.
  6. Exhibit the communication skills needed in personal fitness instruction.
