Reporting Options

Learn Your Reporting Options

There are several options for reporting an incident of sexual assault, interpersonal violence (including domestic and dating violence), stalking, sexual harassment, and sex discrimination.

How Can Faculty & Staff Report Sexual Misconduct?

All faculty and staff* at UW-Whitewater are considered Mandated Reporters and are required to report any known or suspected incidents of sexual misconduct to the Title IX office. If a student, colleague, or anyone else shares information with you suggesting that sexual misconduct occurred or may have occurred, you must inform them that you are a Mandated Reporter and complete the Sexual Misconduct Reporting Form as soon as possible. Examples of Sexual Misconduct include sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and sexual exploitation. These examples are defined in Chapter UWS 17.151.

When to Report

  • Immediately or as soon as reasonably possible after learning of the concern.
  • Do not delay reporting. You are not expected to investigate, gather more information, or determine credibility.
  • If a student, colleague, or anyone else is a danger to themselves or others, please call 911 before reporting to the Title IX Office.

What to Report

You are not expected to conduct an investigation and determine if a policy was violated, just report what was shared with you. Include:

  • The name of the Complainant (person alleged to be the subject of sexual misconduct), if known.
  • The name of the Respondent (person who is reported to have violated policy), if known.
  • Date, time, and location of the incident, if known.
  • Any additional context provided.

What Happens After You Report

  • The Title IX Office will reach out to the impacted individuals to offer support, resources, and options.
  • You typically will not be involved further unless needed for clarification or as part of a reasonable academic accommodation discussion.

Resources

  • If a student, colleague, or anyone else is interested in immediate resources, please direct them and/or walk with them to the Dean of Students Office, University Health and Counseling Services, or Winther Counseling Services.
  • If faculty or staff would like to learn more about how to support students who have been affected by sexual misconduct, please contact the Title IX office at TitleIX@uww.edu.

*University Health and Counseling Services and Winther Counseling Services staff are considered confidential resources and are therefore exempt from reporting to the Title IX Office.

How Can Students Report Sexual Misconduct?

When Sexual Misconduct occurs, or if you believe it has occurred, UW-Whitewater strongly encourages you to tell someone at the university that you trust. There are several reporting options outlined in the flow chart below. Please note that the only confidential reporting options that will not result in the Title IX Office being notified are through University Health and Counseling Services and Winther Counseling Services. All other faculty, staff, and UW-Whitewater Police Officers are considered mandated reporters and are required to report any incidents of sexual misconduct to the Title IX Office. If you wish to tell the Title IX Office directly, please click or scan the QR code below.

If students wish to talk to someone outside of the university, UW-Whitewater has partnered with New Beginnings, a local advocacy group, to provide confidential and free support and services to students affected by sexual misconduct. For more information, please contact New Beginnings at 262-723-4653.

Examples of Sexual Misconduct include sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violencedomestic violence, stalking, and sexual exploitation. These examples are defined in Chapter UWS 17.151

A flow chart that has the top most bubble that says, "Sexual misconduct occurs to you or someone you know." The next step indicated is to tell someone. Below tell someone, there are two options: 1. Tell University Health and Counseling Services & Winther Counseling Services, only for confidential reporting options and 2. Tell any Faculty or Staff Member like Resident Assistant, UWW Police Department, Academic Advisor, or Dean of Students office. The next step after telling someone is to fill out a Sexual Misconduct Reporting Form, and that is then submitted to the Title IX Office.

  • Support is available throughout the reporting process. If you would like to talk to a confidential resource before reporting, please reach out to a confidential resource.
  • Disclosing a concern to the Title IX Coordinator or a Deputy Title IX Coordinator doesn’t automatically initiate an investigation process. Unless there is an immediate or ongoing risk to individual or community safety, choices regarding next steps will generally be left up to you.
  • Learn more information about Confidentiality and Privacy as well as Amnesty.
  • The Title IX Coordinator and Deputy Title IX Coordinators are available to answer any questions you may have about reporting options.
